Clin Prof Bernard Koong

Oral and Maxillofacial Radiologist

Bernard is a founding partner at Envision Medical Imaging, a multidisciplinary comprehensive private radiology group in Western Australia. He also consults internationally, providing opinions to dentists, specialists and radiology colleagues.

 

Bernard is the only North American qualified oral and maxillofacial radiologist in Australia, completing his specialist training with the world renowned Professor Michael Pharoah at the University of Toronto, where he was the first oral and maxillofacial radiology (OMR) registrar to win the prestigious Harron Award and Scholarship. It included training at Mt Sinai Hospital and is considered by many to be the premier specialist OMR programme internationally, renowned for excellence in interpretive radiology.

 

As an invited speaker, Bernard has presented more than 100 lectures to the dental and medical professions across Australia and also in the USA, Canada, Malaysia, Singapore, Switzerland, Hong Kong (SAR, China) and New Zealand.

 

He has a long history of teaching radiology at various universities, including the University of Western Australia and the University of Hong Kong, at Associate Professor levels. It included the provision of the radiology course for the Masters Degree programme in implantology developed by Prof Klaus Lang. Bernard has also provided radiology programmes at the University of Sydney and Griffith University. He also contributes to training the Western Australian radiology registrars of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR). He was Vice Chairman and member of the Scientific Committee of the 33rd ADA Congress.

 

Bernard is author of the radiology chapter for the 6th edition of Lindhe and Lang’s Clinical Periodontology and Implant Dentistry (Wiley-Blackwell, 2015). He is author of the Atlas of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology (Wiley-Blackwell, 2017). He is a contributing author for the Glossary of Preventive Dentistry and Periodontology (Quintessence Publishing), writing the radiological definitions. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Clinical Oral Implant Research journal.

Dr Tom Huang

BDSc (Hons I), DClinDent (DMFR)

Oral and Maxillofacial Radiologist

Tom graduated from The University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Dental Science. After working in both the private and public dental sectors, he undertook a three year specialist training program at the University of Queensland and graduated with a Doctorate of Clinical Dentistry specialising in Dento-Maxillofacial Radiology. It included training at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, private radiology practices and at the School of Dentistry.

Tom works in full time private specialised practices in Maxillofacial Radiology. He has held positions of visiting lecturer, clinical supervisor and external examiner at the University of Queensland, School of Dentistry and the University of Western Australia, School of Dentistry. Tom has also presented topics in radiology and radiography nationally and continues to have research interests in Cone Beam Volumetric Tomography. Tom currently consults at Envision Medical Imaging in Perth, Western Australia. He is also the Australian regional director for the IADMFR. 

Tom has published papers in peer reviewed journals and is contributing author of the publication Atlas of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology (Wiley-Blackwell, 2017).

Clin A/Prof Ramesh Balasubramaniam

BSc, BDSc (UWA), MS, Cert Orofacial Pain (UKy), Cert Oral Medicine (UPenn), MRACDS (OralMed), ABOP, FOMAA, FADI, FPFA, FICD

Ramesh Balasubramaniam graduated with a BDSc from the University of Western Australia in 2000 and subsequently practiced general dentistry. In 2006, he completed a certificate and Master of Science degree in Orofacial Pain at the University of Kentucky. While at the University of Kentucky, Ramesh also underwent training in the field of Dental Sleep Medicine. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orofacial Pain. In addition, Ramesh completed specialist training in Oral Medicine as well as a Fellowship in Interdisciplinary Geriatrics at the University of Pennsylvania in 2008. He has numerous peer reviewed publications, has contributed to several chapters in various texts and co-edited the May 2008 Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinics of North America on Orofacial Pain and Dysfunction. Ramesh is also co-editor and co-author of a new authoritative comprehensive textbook titled “Contemporary Oral Medicine” published by Springer. In addition, he serves as a reviewer for a number of peer-reviewed journals. Ramesh has an appointment as a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Western Australia Dental School and is actively involved in teaching and research. He is president-elect of the Oral Medicine Academy of Australasia. He also has public appointments at the Oral Health Centre of Western Australia and the Perth Children’s Hospital. His Oral Medicine Specialist practice focuses on Orofacial Pain, Oral Diseases and Disorders, and Dental Sleep Medicine. 

Dr Sue-Ching Yeoh

BDS (Syd), MDSC (Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology), FRACDS, FRACDS(Oral Med), FICD, FOMAA, MPhil

Sue is an Oral Medicine Specialist, and maintains a specialist private practice Sydney.  She also holds appointments at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, and Chris O’Brien Lifehouse. Sue is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in both the General Stream and Special Fields Stream of Oral Medicine; and the International College of Dentists. She is the President Elect of the Oral Medicine Academy of Australasia.    Sue is  a member of the Australian Dental Association Therapeutics Committee. Sue has co-authored chapters in Contemporary Oral Medicine (Springer 2019) and the Handbook of Oral Disease for Medical Pracitice (Oxford 2016), as well as the Therapeutic Guidelines: Oral and Dental V3 (2019).  She has also published in peer-review journals. Her clinical interests lie in oral mucosal disease, salivary gland dysfunction and orofacial pain.  

Dr Anastasia Georgiou

BDS, MDSc (Oral Med Oral Path), MRACDS (Oral Med), FRACDS, FOMAA, FICD

Dr Anastasia Georgiou is a registered Specialist in Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology. She has was a Consultant at Westmead Centre for Oral health and Clinical Lecturer with The University of Sydney for 14 years and now works at Macquarie Oral and Maxillofacial Specialists, Sydney Skin, Sydney Specialist Tongue Tie Clinic. Anastasia is Past President of the Oral Medicine Academy of Australasia, the peak body representing Oral Medicine Specialists and the field of Oral Medicine. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and International College of Dentists. Anastasia is on the Board of Studies in Oral Medicine for the RACDS and the Education & Research Committee for ADA NSW. Anastasia’s clinical interests include the oral dermatoses, potentially malignant disorders and paediatric oral medicine. She has authored chapters in Contemporary Oral Medicine (Springer 2019) and Handbook of Pediatric Dentistry 4th Edition (Elsevier 2013) and  published in peer reviewed journals.
